Hong Kong

Visiting Hong Kong in a layover on the way to Australia was an unexpected treat. With 22 hours between our flights on the return from Oz, we had plenty of time to get out and explore. Formerly a colony of the British Empire, Hong Kong was handed to China in 1997 and is still a special administrative region of China today though the marks of both cultures can be seen here from the traditional temples to the London-bus style transport system. Interestingly, Hong Kong has the highest life expectancy in the world and 90% of journeys by residents in the region are made my public transport.
